The Challenge

This client needed to enhance an existing block of semiconductor IP for use in the next generation of application processors for mobile phones.

Due to our excellent reputation in semiconductor IP, they asked us to help with modelling and designing a new architecture.

Our Approach

We extended the existing reference model to better model the performance of the existing chip and to allow options to model various approaches for the new architecture. We worked closely with their internal team, presenting weekly reports on the performance of different experimental architectures, resulting in convergence on a proposed design.

The Outcome

The final design achieved substantial performance gains, without using a large chip area. The client is currently using the extended reference model and the proposed design to implement their next generation processor architecture.
